Depends: Most feel that keeping the cheeks contracted allows for a more controlled sound production and air flow. A notable except was dizzy gillespie whose cheeks billowed out prominently when he blew his trumpet. I would vote for keeping the cheeks under control. Ask your teacher what he/she thinks.
