I remember it well: A kind woman in a restroom reassured me about this when i was 16. It's not rare in teenage girls - and yes - it can be related to sexual activity, but doesn't have to be. Do see a dr for the uti. Early=easy. Late=hard. And, even if you can't be open with your mom, try to trust someone enough to get advice on protection (disease ; baby).
