Unlikely: Like any irritant, tear gas will likely worsen your asthma. I have not heard of any asthma death of tear gas but can imagine that if one is already having severe asthma , exposure to it may push one over the cliff.

Mild asthma: There would be extremely low risk of dying from tear gas with mild asthma. . Tear gas is a lacrimator, it irritates mucous membranes of the eyes, causing pain & tears & irritates the upper respiratory tract, leading to coughing & choking. The effects are time-limited & people usually recover fully within 2 hours at most.
