Pleurisy: Chest pain with taking a deep breath is termed "pleuritic pain". Usually it is caused by irritation of the lining of the lung. It can be caused by a virus or could be associated with pneumonia. This is termed "pleurisy". Less common causes include pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) or chest trauma.

Treatment is directed at the underlying infection if there is one present, and to reduce the pain you can use anti-inflammatory medications like aleve, (naproxen) advil, motrin.
