A member asked:

I had a routine abdominal ultrasound. i do not have any pain at all. my left kidney had an impression of focal caliectasia. what does this mean? tnx

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Caliectasia: Caliectasia is dilation of the renal calyxes which are areas of the kidneys where urine collects before it travels to the bladder. It can be a sign of blockage (due to stones, prostate, cancer, etc) but in some people mild dilation can be normal. It would be worth talking to your doctor and possibly getting a ct scan or repeat us in the future to follow up.
