Means HIV exposed: We test for HIV infection first by looking for evidence that a person was exposed (had the virus floating around inside them) to the virus. This is done by testing for HIV antibodies. This tells us to look for evidence of active infection with a second step which looks for viral particles floating around in the blood. There are very few things that cause a false positive HIV antibody test.
