Several things: If you can, trim the nail down so it doesn't catch on anything and then cover it with medical tape or adhesive bandage until it grows back enough to protect the nail bed. Soak your finger before you cover it after cutting the nail for 20 minutes in cold water then place an antibiotic ointment on it before covering it with a nonstick adhesive bandage.

Bandaid: Put a bandaid over it so that you do not catch it on anything and rip it off because that could hurt. Just let it come off naturally. Wash it with soap and water and keep it covered until it falls off on its own.
