Cortisone cream: Eczema can be acute or chronic and has multiple causes. You can try over the counter cortisone (1% hydrocortisone), but long-term use can thin the skin. Also, sometimes a rash around the mouth in women is perioral dermatitis, which may be worsened by cortisone and is treated with antibiotics.
