Sometimes needed: Occasionally, use of regular antidepressants alone cannot control moderate to severe depressive symptoms. In these cases, certain atypical antipsychotic e.g. Abilify (aripiprazole) and Risperdal can be helpful. These medications should be prescribed by a physician with experience.
