HAART: Currently treatment for HIV consists of highly active antiretroviral therapy or haart. This means taking a combination of medications that act at different sites of the virus' replication cycle. Why? We know that using only one agent leads to resistance because the virus is so robust at replicating. We pick the treatment based on the persons resistance pattern ; how they tolerate the medication.
