A member asked:

Getting confused with asthma and chest infection, difference?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Asthma or infection: In asthma, bronchi or breathing tubes suddenly constrict in response to irritants, allergens and viral infections. This causes obstruction to airflow ; typically producing whistling sound or wheezing. It also causes chest tightness ; shortness of breath. Chest infection is a lay term loosely applied to pneumonia, bronchitis or a mere presence of "wet cough".
