Determine the cause: Why is the infection still present? Exposed bone? Broken root tip? Foreign body? Non-responsive antibiotic? The dentist who extracted the tooth should address these issues, and try a different antibiotic if s/he feels this one is not helping.

Return to dentist: If infection persists or increases after 1 week, you should see your dentist/oral surgeon to exclude any pathologic disorder like dry socket.
