A member asked:

I'm wondering what is the exact bio/chemical process causing sharp, momentary tooth pain from contact with sweet substances?

Glycolysis: The bacteria residing in a cavity or a fracture in your tooth metabolize the sugar and release acid as waste. The acid irritates the nerve endings in your dentin tubules or the nerve itself if the cavity/crack is deep.
