A member asked:

How can someone who had cataract surgery need bifocals? does the eye age all over again?

They all do: Unless the patient chooses a multifocal lens, most patients after cataract surgery require bifocals. If they're lucky enough that they're vision for distance is 20/20, then they would only need reading glasses. The eye, like the rest of your body is always aging. Even though the implants are stable, the rest of our eyes are not. So your vision do change over time, even after cataract surgery.

No: Cataract surgery replaces ones cloudy lens (cataract) with a clear lens implant. Unless you have a new multi-focal or accomodative iol, the lens implant is mono focal. Meaning it only focuses at one distance, therefore needing glasses for close.

No: After cataract surgery, bifocals or reading glasses will still be needed unless the patient chose monovision, a multifocal or accommodative lens implant. Standard lens implants allow some near vision but do not focus up close enough to allow reading or fine activity at near.
