Nothing is forever: Including you color decision of the day. Remember your braces will be in place for quite a while. Bright red braces may clash with your orange sweater. Silver braces are more neutral but less fun. Clear braces tend to yellow over time. Ask your orthodontist about "colored a-lastics." they can be changed frequently.

Color vs Plain: Most orthodontists who offer "colors" place colored elastic ties on the brackets. If you do not want colors, you can simply requrest silver ties to blend in with the metal brackets. In my office, that is the routine. Patients make that determination.

Personality: the answer has to do with what kind of person you are and your lifestyle. there is no clinical difference. Of my adult patients, many love to be "loud and proud" and wear colors (especially my elementary school teachers), while others are more reserved and don't want colors (often these patients also ask for clear brackets). So trust your gut and do what feels right for you.
