Call Orthodontist: If caused by braces, orthodontist may resolve problem for you. If non-orthodontic dental problem orthodontist may refer you back to your dentist. In the meantime, 1 200mg advil (ibuprofen) every 4hrs w food or liquids, rinse 3x/day w 1tsp salt in 8oz warm water. But first call your orthodontist.

Pain and braces: Orthodontic treatment can cause a toothache for brief periods of time when the braces are adjusted or tightened. Take OTC pain medication (NSAIDs or Tylenol), as your orthodontist recommends. If the pain persists more than a week since the tightening, do not hesitate to call the orthodontist.
