Pain and braces: Orthodontic treatment can cause a toothache for brief periods of time when the braces are adjusted or tightened. Take OTC pain medication (NSAIDs or Tylenol), as your orthodontist recommends. If the pain persists more than a week since the tightening, do not hesitate to call the orthodontist.
