Have heard that swishing with coconut oil whitens teeth, but how does it work?

Not really known how: There are 6 ways to whiten teeth once stained: oxidation (pro method w/ peroxides), abrasion (toothbrush w/ toothpaste, baking soda or pumice), "white-out" type "paints, " dehydration ("zoom", a hair dryer), contrast (an old theater trick: dark lipstick, suntan, dark skin) and dental materials. Studies of "oil pulling therapy" show results because of improved plaque control-brushing-not the oil.

Cannot agree: I am not aware of any secret ingredients in coconut oil that can whiten teeth. Remember that most bleaching of teeth invokes more than just swishing for a few seconds. Hope this helps!

Snake oil: Snake oil doesn't work. If you want brighter teeth start wit a professional cleaning at your dentist/hygienist. Then talk to dentist about whitening methods that will not waste your time or money.
