Tooth wear: If you grind your teeth together, eventually you will create a wear facet--a smooth flatter spot on the tooth cusp or biting surface. If this is a habit or by accident, sometimes the teeth will break off or split. Check with your dentist to see if you need a bite guard or can get by with an athletic mouth guard. Ask your dentist.

Depends: Scraping or possibly chipping a tooth may alter how the opposing tooth/teeth strike it. This can create a domino effect with changes in the dentition in terms of movement, tipping, bite change, etc. I would see a dentist as a precaution so he/she can make contour and restore the bite.
