That is not an : Uncommon fear. I would ensure that you let the dentist ; his staff know about your anxiety so that they can work with you to decrease it. If it is a severe fear you might consider working with a therapist with cognitive behavioral therapy or desensitization. Acupuncture prior to a session can also markedly lessen anxiety. It is important to work with this fear because dental care is imperative.

Be brave and...: Take a deep breath and go meet the dentist. Meet several if you need to find one who makes you kind of relaxed. Then if you explain your fear they can ultimately write you a prescription for your nerves or find one who will use IV sedation to do your dental work. (not the take a little pill type of sedation). Also there is nitrous or laughing gas to possibly give you that nerve you need to go.

CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.
