A member asked:

How long after a cut can you still get stitches?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on how dirty: Or contaminated the wound is. Closing a bacterially-loaded wound only puts a "lid on a garbage can" and often ends up with deeper tissue infection or worse scarring/healing issues. The "golden period" for fresh wound closure is longer nowadays, and longer for facial or scalp injuries, but recent studies show that most wounds can still be successfully closed up to 19 hours. Sooner is better!
