I'll make a guess...: What about during the day ie shaving legs, planting and twisting into/out of the car, squatting down? Could be a meniscal tear, which either heals on its own or doesn't (and can benefit from arthroscopic surgery)... Avg age is 35 for a meniscal tear. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00358.

? meniscus tear: At your age most commonly that story sounds like a meniscus tear. You need to be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon and have a physical exam and if your physical exam is consistent with the meniscus tear, an MRI will be ordered and you will know your diagnosis.
