Maybe : If your gums are sensitive, start with a new soft bristled manual brush and gently brush after every meal. Floss or use an oral irrigator as well. In time your gums will firm and you can switch to an electric toothbrush if you choose.

Perhaps: The real question is what's causing the pain. Are your gums inflamed, or do you have gum recession with root exposure? Both are signs of gum disease that require treatment. See hour Dentist. Referral to a Periodontist may be in order. In the meantime, follow Dr. Douglas' excellent advice.
