Various conditions: Severe uncontrolled diabetes can cause several metabolic problems. The most dire is diabetic ketoacidosis (dka), which is more common in patients who are Insulin deficient. Dka is a severe form of metabolic acidosis that can lead to multiple organ failure. Very high glucoses can also cause high triglycerides, a disorder of fatty particle metabolism that may lead to pancreatitis and heart disease.
