Yes: The lack of gag reflex is a neurologic problem and has to be evaluated. The gag reflex is the safeguard that if anything goes from the mouth to the lungs instead of the esophagus, you cough it up so as to prevent aspiration and pneumonia. This reflex is actually depressed with age and sleep or with sedating medicines and we have to be careful.
