A member asked:

My sputum culture had klebsiella oxytoca, had no symptoms my sputum was tested for something else. now i have a cold, possible to get k.pneumoniae?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In general, no!: K oxytoca is a strong pathogen, and may cause serious infections, among them, pneumonia. Although it colonizes the nasal passages, it's presence in the sputum can be a warning sign, but if you are healthy and have a normal immune status, it should not progress. Be vigilant for any sudden changes in your condition and seek a consultation if your "cold" worsens.
