Take him to a doctor: You will feel much better if you get an examination and recommendations for treatment. It may be easy to treat but if there is something more serious, you'll regret missing it - so just do it. Little kids can't tell you how bad it feels - or not. Better safe than sorry. Hope your holiday is good otherwise.

BRONCHIOLITIS: Possibly he has bronchiolitis, common cause: RSV virus or other viruses. Also, acute exacerbation of asthma / new onset asthma can be a cause. Take him to the er for an evaluation and treatment. In the meantime, offer him more fluid, use humidifier in the house. Make sure his nose is not blocked, use saline nasal drop 3-5 in each nostril and suck the mucous with a bulb syringe.
