A member asked:

What is another way of saying white coat syndrome (hypertension) since a doctor may not be pleased in hearing it said that way from a patient?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Office hypertension: 'white-coat hypertension' is also known as 'isolated clinic' or 'office' hypertension. Having your blood pressure taken by a nurse or technician, instead of the physician, may minimize the effect of office hypertension. It has about a 10-20% prevalence. The diagnosis of hypertension is usually not given to a patient until it remains elevated after 3-6 visits; unless there is ongoing organ damage.
