Re-evaluation: Your dentist needs to re-evaluate the tooth. Give them a call. Take otc pain meds in the meantime.

Be patient 7-10 days: During the root canal therapy a lot of collateral tissue (gums, nerves, muscles) damage is done. The pain is a symptom of the affected tissue inflammation. Over the counter medications (Aleeve, Tylenol) for a few days will ameliorate the pain. If concerned? Call your dentist for post-op exploration.

The : The 'temp filling' part of your question raises a red flag. After a root canal - it is important to have the tooth properly restored - if a final restoration - such as a crown is not placed on the tooth then the canals that were sterilized during the root canal procedure can be re-infected with bacteria. Reinfection will lead to the kind of pain you're describing.

I : I assume that your root canal is completed. It is not unusual to have some pain after completion of the treatment due to residual inflammation of the tissues around the root of the tooth. This can be managed with Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). I may also be present if there was an infection in the bone as a result of the death of the nerve. If the discomfort does not slowly resolve contact the dentist who performed the procedure for instructions.
A 49-year-old member asked:

Would i still need a root canal even if the tooth itself doesn't hurt?

Possibly: One condition that requires root canal treatment is "apical periodontitis". By definition by the american association of endodontists this condition is asymptomatic. Let your local endodontist examine your condition a explain "why" you need the treatment. You should feel secure in your decision for treatment and that comes with understanding your condition. Good luck -.

Had a root canal and crown tooth still hurts?

See the Dentist: The dentist needs to check for 3 general possibilities: 1) there is still infection at the end of the root where the root canal was done. 2) the crown is higher than the rest of the teeth and you are biting on this tooth first. 3) the root may be split.
