Rare: The true etiology of sarcoidosis remains unknown. Our knowledge of the disease keeps growing and there are many theories as to the cause. They may be a slightly higher risk in first degree relatives who have sarcoid but it remains small and we still have not isolated the specific gene sarcoid is found on.
