Oral antifungals: For athlete's foot, you can use over-the-counter antifungal creams such as tolnaftate, clotrimazole, or miconazole. However, when the nails are affected (onychomycosis), topical drugs don't usually work, and you have to get a prescription for oral terbinafine (lamisil) or itraconazole (sporonox). Talk to your doctor.
