Fast?: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.

Sore throat: I agree with dr. Fowler's ideas about throat cultures and salt water -- and am adding a few. Slippery elm lozenges can help, such as thayer's -- or also this can be combined with elderberry ; zinc in other preparations. It can be found in throat comfort tea. Licorice lozenges also -- licorice (dgl if hypertension is a worry) is soothing to mucus membranes. Sage throat spray can be helpful too.
