Caution: For a short term, your dentist may use rubber bands to close gaps between teeth, especially front teeth. It is not a common, or safe, way to move teeth except by a dental professional. Moving teeth safely requires a plan. When the tooth moves, so does the root. It also changes the way other teeth work together. So do not try this by yourself without a dentist's exam ; supervision.

Wow: Really not safe unless closely supervised by dentist. If rubber band slips under gum can cause tooth loss. And if rubber band closes space on one side of tooth new space will open on other side. Additionally if tooth movement not stabilized it will quickly relapse. Please see a tooth movement specialist, an orthodontist, for advice.

Yes, but...: If left too long, they will create gingivitis. Eventually, they will cause the tooth to be exfoliated ("shed") and lost due to what is called "experimental periodontitis". That's why you need a license to practice dentistry--don't self treat! see your dentist. ( fyi: we can charge more to fix your mistakes!).
