Know your shade: If you already have the whiteness you are happy with, it is a good idea to learn what shade your teeth have now. At each hygiene appointment, ask if your hygienist can check your tooth shade. Once per 1-3 years, depending on your shade relapse, a "touch-up whitening" can be done to maintain the whiteness. Professional whitening tooth paste can keep the white without being too abrasive for teeth.

Avoid pigments: Smoking stains teeth badly. Coffee, tea, colas, dark acidic beverages, mustard, saffron, tomato sauce, dark alcoholic beverages, and pigment producing bacteria all stain teeth. Make sure you see your dentist for both whitening and maintenance.
