A member asked:

Please tell me if you can chew gum with braces on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Only if: Only if you want to break your braces, bend your wires, extend your time in treatment, and waste time and money. Open a can, the lid doesn't come all the way off until you wiggle it back and forth and the metal snaps. Chewing gum does the same thing to braces. What's worse, it can damage the sealer between the brace and the tooth, letting bacteria get in behind your braces forming cavities.
