Not smart : As a parent of a tweenager and dentist to hundreds more, the last thing you want to of is wrap your (expensive!) retainer(s) in a napkin. Simply brush them with soap and warm water every day, rinse well with lots of clear water and put them back in your mouth or place them in your case to air dry. Napkins get thrown out routinely...Think about it! :-).

Sure: They do not always need to be wet.

No: No, but you can easily break the trays. Ask your treating Dentist or (hopefully) Orthodontic Specialist best tray hygiene suggestions.

Not recommended: A napkin might be too rough and scratch them; use a Q-tip instead.

Invisalign : Invisalign aligners should be rinsed with water and brushed daily. Cleaning tablets can be used to clean and brighten aligners. I recommend retainer brite www.Retainerbrite.Com to all my invisalign patients. It kills 99% of 7 common bacteria and leaves the aligners crystal clear. Soak the aligner in tap water, add tablet wait 15 minutes rinse...You are ready to go! good luck.
