A member asked:

Is it possible for me to have hiv even though i tested neg?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible? yes.: It depends on the type of test done and how long after the exposure was the test done. If you were tested more three months after the exposure by HIV nucleic acid test and it was negative, you do not have hiv. Antibody test may take longer, up to a year to turn positive, in rare instances. Most people turn positive in 3-6 months. If would be prudent to discuss the matter with your doctor.
