Usually children with asperger's talk pretty well, if not a little bit behind age expectations. A thorough evaluation by a trained psychologist or psychiatrist should answer the question, but there should be continued observation.

Diagnosis: The diagnosis of Asperger syndrome requires expressive language. In the us, the diagnosis is now under the umbrella of the "autism spectrum" and Asperger syndrome is no longer used as the official diagnosis. The diagnosis of : Asperger Syndrome has been subsumed into Autistic Spectrum Disorder, which has 3 levels classified by the intensity of supports & services needed to maximize functioning. The outdated diagnosis AS include an overall IQ of 70 or above and no significant delays in speech & language at age 3-4. Therefore, his symptoms would not have fit the old diagnosis & will fit ASD level 3, not level 1.
