No: The coffee had nothing to do with his height. It is determined by what he inherited from his parents and grandparents. Chronic illnesses can contribute also, like diabetes, celiac disease, heart disease, kidney disease, etc. Coffee has nothing to do with it.

Unlikely to be pbm: The expected final height of a kid is the average of parental height + 2.5 inches if male and -2.5 inches if female. Tall parents have taller kids than short ones. There are many dietary, health and other influences on final height, but ingestion of coffee at a young age is not much of one.If your 17 yo is quite below expected height from parent data, i would have him evaluated for treatable probs.
