A member asked:

Why do some preemies do well and others, the same age, have serious problems?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Different rates: All of us develop at different rates. This is both genetic and environmental. That is why some of us age faster than others and it applies to preemies as well. Good care by an obstetrician can improve a preemie's chances- for example, keeping maternal risk factors under control (bp, sugar) or even by treatments pre-birth to lessen serious pulmonary/heart issues.
