what is the incidence of ear infections in preschoolers?

Specializes in Pediatrics
30 ? : There are some children who will never have an ear infection. Some will have a whole bunch. The exact incidence is not important. By age 2, you'll know what the story is. Being around smokers, being in daycare, having allergies, will all predispose to ear infections. The more exposure to irritants and viruses, the more likely. Good nutrition, treating allergies, avoiding smoke exposure, helps.

High: It is estimated that 70-80% of children in preschool age will have one ear infection. Preschoolers in a daycare or an actual preschool program where they are exposed to a lot of other children tend to have more ear infections and the infections tend to be with more resistant bacteria.

Pressure on wound: Put a small bandaid on it and if is still bleeding in the morning then see your doctor. If it is bleeding a lot then go to the er to get it to stop.Cover it with pressure and keep pressure for at least 20 minutes then keep bandaid and slowly remove it gently more pressure should get the bleeding to stop. Hygiene, antibiotics: Depends upon the type of organism. If bacterial there are effective antibiotics. If viral hygiene is most important. If herpes, there is a good antiviral. Your ophthalmologist can evaluate your eye and sort this out.

Insect bites: It could be any insect bite. See the doctor if it does not clear up in few days. If it is itchy you can try Hydrocortisone cream and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) by mouth.

I am 38 f obese with fatty liver. I have lost 42 lbs since march . My hair is falling out. Could this be a sign of cirrhosis?

Probably not: Cirrhosis is not usually associated with hair loss.Any time there is a rapid reduction in weight or any kind of illness then we can see hair loss increase for several months. This type of hair loss comes back so not to worry. Good luck on your weight loss.
