Puberty: Girls usually have breast development first, approximately 2 years before they start their periods. The fastest growth time is the 2 years before and 2 years after the beginning of menses. After breast development (which can progress gradually), girls will develop underarm hair and pubic hair. They will start getting more curves, gaining some body fat (which is essential to adequate estrogen).
