Depends on the type: Benign moles (fleshy skin-colored bumps that often have hair(s) growing out of them) can be removed by shaving them off flush and cauterizing the base. This often leaves as little scar as possible. Moles that carry any suspicion of dysplasia or malignancy (dark, flat, irregularly colored or bordered) should be removed by cutting them out, sending for pathology and then neat closure of the incision
