A member asked:

Can passing stool cause back pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's possible: Part of your colon could be particularly sensitive as stool passes through, causing a "viscero-somatic" reflex in which nerves around the colon affect nerves of nearby soft tissue (skin, muscle). If so, your pain would be in the upper lumbar area, about 2/3 way down spine. Treat the cause, not the symptom.
