Unclear: If there is a blood clot in the muscle, it is either from a coagulation defect (such as too much blood thinner) or from trauma. However if the blood clot is in the veins of the muscle (and not in the tissue itself), it can be from inactivity, from hereditary reasons, or from a distant cancer that makes the blood prone to clotting. In any case, you should see your physician to clarify the cause.

Hematoma?: A hematoma is a collection of blood not in a blood vessel this clotted blood (usually) will not travel and is usually benign if small. Tou should seek medical evaluation if large or painful.

Dont assume benign: If you have been told that you have a blood clot, I would never assume that it benign. It you are uncertain of the severity or significance, then seek a vascular specialist opinion. It could be a DVT within the gastrocnemius veins or other muscle veins, which occasionally can become a more serious from of DVT. Or it could be a more benign hematoma. You would need an ultrasound w/ interpretation.
