What does it mean that the thyroid is heterogenous appearing?

It means that ....: It appears the same as the rest of the gland..... This is a good thing. Differences in appearance in a gland that should look the same ... Is not so good.

Possible Hashimotos: Heterogeneous texture on a thyroid ultrasound means that the thyroid tissue is irregular appearing, not homogeneous, but there are no true nodules. This is most commonly seen in people with hashimoto's thyroiditis. Thyroid function may or may not be normal.
