Very similar: 2nd molar extraction is very similar in terms of pain and swelling to 3rd molar extraction. Speak with your dentist for further info.

Usually not: While every circumstance is different, usually the extraction of a first or second molar is easier then extraction of wisdom teeth (whom are often impacted). You should expect less swelling and less discomfort. Ask your dentist what you should expect given your unique situation prior to the procedure.

Typically not: I hope your considering some form of tooth replacement. Nowadays very often an implant can be placed at the same time of extraction. Consider your options for the future. Keep a one tooth problem a one tooth issue. Hope this helps.

Extraction: Each tooth extraction is slightly different. Although swelling is rare, it does happen, especially if the tooth needs to be sectioned and/or if bone needs to be removed to gain access. Your dentist or oral surgeon will be better prepared to advise you of how difficult the procedure will be.
