How does an ob/gyn decide what size speculum to use during pelvic exam?

Speculum: The speculum size is usually chosen based upon patient age and birth status. It helps the physician with visualization to use the largest speculum that fits comfortably. There should be no pain or discomfort during an exam. If so, ask your ob/gyn to use a smaller speculum.
