No need: Approximately 90% of infant umbilical hernias will close by themselves by age 4-5 without any treatment. It is of course impossible to predict if the baby is in the 90 or 10 percent group, but time will tell. This is the only clinical scenario known where a hernia can heal without a surgical procedure.
