Numbness/Tingling: Carpal tunnel is caused by compression of the median nerve which supplies feeling to the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. When the nerve is compressed these digits are numb or tingly. People with cts frequently have night symptoms.

Many: It is classically associated with numbness of the thumb, index, long and ring fingers elicited by prolonged flexion (bending forward) of wrist associates with weakness, clumsiness, pins & needles, aching, heaviness, etc. It may be reproduced with forceful tapping over the wrist (tinels) or forced bending of the wrist &elbow (phalens).

Symptoms of CTS: People with carpal tunnel normally have numbness in the tips of thumb, index finger and middle finger. The symptoms may also be tingling in the same area. The symptoms may be worse during or after sleeping or while driving a car. The best way to determine carpal tunnel is with nerve conduction testing.

Carpal tunnel is: Associated with altered sensation in the thumb, index, middle and part of the ring. It can affect the muscles of the thumb. Symtpoms can be intermittent, occasional or severe and long standing. Testing such as a nerve study/emg is often used to aid diagnosis and gauge severity. Treatment can range from splinting to injectons and even surgery.A very common disorder; many function well despite it.
