The Internet: I would start by checking here http://www.Rheumatology.Org/ and i would also check with the lupus foundation here: http://www.Lupus.Org/. Ask the foundation if there is a support group locally. Ask the members who are the local favorite docs. Last, i would check twitter using the lupus hashtag #lupus. Bonus, set up a google alert for lupus.

Aggressive treatment: Comprehensive evaluation is essential since systemic lupus can present with a very wide array of signs and symptoms depending on how active it is and what organ systems are affected. Inflammatory labs such as ESR and blood counts should be normal once lupus is in remission. If you have any concerns about your rheumatologist's diagnostic and treatment plan, you can always get a second opinion.

Your gut feeling: It is hard to define " Good Rheumatologist". It is your gut feeling when you talk to the doctor, You should feel comfortable about talking about your problems. You should feel that doctor is genuinely listening to you and discussing your issues.
